I have my first year of owning chickens under my belt and boy oh boy it was a lot of learning and still learning daily.
I have 6 hens 2 barred rock 2 rhode island reds and i think 2 australops. Well one of the australops and one RR have begun fighting and the Rr is acting extremely anxious. Sometimes the RR starts it and sometimes the Australop does. They have free food at all times and access to our small backyard and there are 2 small coops and a contained run. So they have plenty of food even tho they act like they are starving every time I walk outside😂. We don’t have predators that I know of (we live in town)and they are locked in the fully fenced run at night. I just don’t know why they are fighting and she’s anxious. I have googled it and the only thing I think it could be is boredom. Shouldn’t pecking order already be established?

The pecking order is fluid and ever changing with lower ranked birds trying to improve their position and dominant birds trying to maintain theirs. As long as blood is not being drawn, I'd let them work things out.

You mentioned having a small yard and small coops... any photos of the set up, or measurements? How many feeders/waterers? Do they have yard access all day? Tight confinement or lack of hiding spots can aggravate behavioral issues.
