Any advice before I turn on the saw?

Nails--6d--8d--12d--16d--You will need more than you think. I am in process of building another 8'x16' coop. Have one building 8x8 for five Red Stars and picked up 10 RIR, and 5 mixed of whatever.

All my fingers are accounted for, all 11.

Just kidding, I only have 10.

I did cut the four pieces for the back at the wrong angle, so I did have to cut them again. However, I used the wrong cuts for cross-members for the nest box and roost post. I didn't waste too much that way.

The Lady has pics, I'll post them when we get back from dinner. (I'm taking her to Gordon Ramsay's place here in New York.)

Here's a pic from the end of the day today:

Base done.
Walls framed.

Tomorrow I sheet the walls, rout the windows/doors, cut the insulation and cover the inside of the walls, If I have time, I'll put hardware cloth on the sides of the base and build the roof.

Thursday I should finish up and build the run. More pics to come.

I'm in Manhattan, Annian.

The base is 44x48. I cut the 4" off one side so I could use 1 piece of plywood for the top, and still have an overhang on all 4 sides.

Somehow I turned the base before I started framing. When did I realize this? After all the walls were done, and I had put hardware cloth on the base. Suddenly the walls didn't fit. A quick turn of the base and a little adjustment of the hardware cloth, and all is well.

I re-figured the roof today, finished it up, and covered the whole coop with tar paper. That's how it will sit for the next week. When I get back in town next Saturday, I'll put the cedar shingles/framing on, build the nest box and run, find something for the floor of the coop. The birds should move outside after that.

I'll take more pics tomorrow when it's light out.

Wow, talk about maximizing space available, well done! I can't wait to see your progress, keep the photos coming; I've never seen a city coop before!
