So, I have a chicken question. How long after a Hen starts laying are her eggs good enough to incubate?

About a good month or so would be advisable...although my incubator is big enough that I can take the chances.

I now breed around 25 different breeds.

That's a lot of breeds, Do you mind posting pics of your set-up? I've been looking for some ideas since i've just gotten into the whole breeding thing. Getting into breeding call ducks, Turkeys, Ornamental pheasants, Guineas, and chickens/Seramas.. I've got the space for all of them, I just need to pens~! So i want some ideas firstbefore I got out buying all this lumber for building them..

I am in the middle of repairing a few of them...but when I'm done, I'll be sure to take some pictures. What I have is mainly two big barns, a breeding complex, and some interior dividers in the barns. Each month I pick around 8 breeds to isolate. The rest range together.

Thx! Ok, so I've been trying to get an answer to this for a while...How long can a hen store the sperm(s) of a rooster before the eggs become infertile, and how long after the hen mates again will her eggs be fertilized again? I hope this isn't a hard question, nobody has been able to give me a straight answer yet.

The female can be fertile for up to three weeks. Some years ago I had a male drop dead for no apparent cause. I collected the females eggs and put them in my incubator. I had a good hatch.

I will be later. Too bad i'm in canada so you get all the boarder issues for shipping into america.

I made a couple of attempts to ship eggs to Canada with my RIR line. It was so costly I didn't do it and a lot of paperwork involved.

I had my first flock around 50 years ago. There were some years in between when I relocated for work and didn't have any birds. I lived for awhile in a restricted area at the time but now many communities are allowing backyard flocks.
