I am dying from allergies this year. I am almost desperate enough to let my doctor prescribe something. So what does everyone else do about allergies.

Right now I am taking my raw local honey daily, and Claritin, and a decongestant, and a cool mist humidifier. Nothing helps. At least when I was sick with the flu I knew that would end. This is just as bed and its a life sentence.

Anything you have tried that seemed really effective?

Cherry liquid Benadryl OR 1 oz. Jack Daniels with 2 tablespoons of honey and a squeeze of lemon heated for 20 seconds in the microwave and a good nights sleep. It's not a cure but it helps with symptoms. The Benadryl is better for daytime for me, but most folks pass out on that stuff. I feel better and clean the whole house in a few hours

Perhaps not a miracle cure, but here's my story. I had gotten up to where I had 4 sinus infections in 11 months. I really hated to be taking antibiotics that often. I started using a Neti pot, which I considered kind of gross, but it really isn't bad at all. I did it almost every day and didn't have a sinus infection for about a year, and I think I could have avoided that one if I hadn't gotten lazy about using the Neti pot. I never even thought my allergies were necessarily connected to pollen, but this year the pollen was so bad that it was obvious. BTW, if you buy a Neti pot, you don't have to buy the expensive little packets to go with it; you can make your own with sea salt and baking soda. I hope you'll try it. Warm the water slightly.

I use the generic equivalent of Benadryl. If helps a lot, but nothing is 100% when my truck starts turning yellow in the spring.

Tried a bunch of prescription, none worked for me. You have to find what works for you.

What does the honey do? I'd have thought it would be bound to have pollen in it.

I've forgotten about the Neti pot. I know quite a few people that do this and they say, that while it doesn't eliminate symptoms completely, it knocks out 90% of them!! I did try this on my 4 yr. old little girl. It was her doctor that recommended that I do it. I used a snot sucker (there must be a better name for it, LOL!) Thanks for reminding me about it Stumpy. You've got to give it a try HeatherLynn. I'm going to get one the next time I'm in town because my allergies are burning my nasal passages.

Allergies are an immune response, so you have to boost your immune system.
All batural raw probiotics, and a good daily dose of fermented cod liver oil and natural vitamin C will greatly help.
And do employ the use of a neti pot as needed.

I personally would stear clear of suppresents, because they just set you up for more and more problems in the future.

You're quite welcome. I hope Heatherlynn will give it a try.

I'm sure I need to do more on boosting my immune system.

I constantly use saline nasal spray try to keep the pollen out massive doses of vitamin C halls vitamin c drops my other vitamin C comes at night when I am laying down grapefruit juice and a little brandy. if it is stuffy and not runny I use raw garlic and cayenne this really opens me up . mine is mostly bronchitis vicks vapor rub knock a lot of it down

I use Allegra. So does my husband. It doesn't cause problem side effects for me, like other antihistamines. It is prescription, though.
