Any and All Info Please

OK, I’ll expand the walls up then do the roof. Any other info? How about nesting if it’s a female? I read somewhere about a sand floor instead of bedding or straw? I could sit here all day asking questions. Lol I do appreciate you taking the time to help. :hugs
I use a sand base because I live on a sand dune. If I lived on real dirt, I would have a dirt floor.

The simplest thing I do for a nest is to lean either a pallet or a wide board against a wall and seed it with a fake egg. It would not hurt to put loose straw in the nest site.

You originally stated that you were planning to get a turkey to raise for food. If this is the case and you get a broad breasted turkey, it will be ready to process before any egg laying would commence.

I do not recommend having a single turkey as they are social birds and do best with the company of their own kind.

These are some of the differences between having turkeys and chickens:

- Turkeys fly...low fences are no problem for them (at least leaving, but getting back once their out can be)
- Turkeys prefer to roost much higher (trees, tops of sheds, etc.)
- While adult turkeys are more hardy than chickens, the poults are notoriously less hardy
- They are noisier, they "talk" too you whenever you come out, arrive home, car pulls in the drive, etc.
- They enjoy back porches, carports, looking in windows...any where they might find you
- Turkeys are very curious, they will follow you and stick their heads into whatever you are doing, which makes them great fun to have...however, this makes it much harder to dispatch them when its time to butcher.
