Any artists out there?

I've drawn and painted most of my life. Took a bit of a break from it and how happily retired, I invested in a LOT of art supplies water colors, acrylics, artist pencils, water color pencils, canvases and trying to get back into things again.

Here are some of my latest projects.

This is Loki, a portrait of a friend's French Bull Dog that I did for him. I also did one of his wife's dog, Jetzen.

This is one of the first Dutch Pours I tried that I really liked.

I'm trying to learn new techniques but my main love is still doing portrait quality pencil sketches and water colors.

Those are all INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! ♥️😍

He was in pretty good shape despite having been killed -- his crop was torn open, and he was missing a bit of skin, but that was it. I figured that it was a good opportunity to familiarize myself with the anatomy of a chicken.
We must be two of a kind. I butchered a Silkie cockerel the other day, and enjoyed gutting it a bit more than I expected.
Which is weird and a bit concerning since I pretty much almost faint when my mom is trying to remove a bumblefoot abscess from a duck foot. I can’t handle a bacterial infection but enjoy guts? My priorities are way out of whack.
Well...the new roo I rescued...
I was spending time with him, he likes pumpkin seeds, so I just kinda lay down in the straw, and he um...got on my leg.
(you know?)
Yucky! Hopefully he’ll grow out of that. Idk tho, I’ve had hundreds of cockerels over the past couple of years and that never happened to me. They usually grow out of their experimentation stage soon enough though. One thing to note is a young cockerel raised exclusively with pullets tend to not understand boy behavior so well. Mine always have plenty of brothers to fight with, or, if they’re misbehaving, they go in with a mature male to teach them how to behave. If your rescue was someone’s accidental rooster, he may have only had girls around him.

Wow! Those are absolutely gorgeous! You are a true artist!

Hey! Just found this thread. I started on a serious drawing journey early this year and discovered I'm not as bad as I thought I was😂 here is some of my work
I started with just plain pencil drawings and moved on to experimenting with oil pastels. I had never tried them before so it was interesting to see what they do.

I have more but it won't let me put them on🤷‍♀️
I also worked with some very old and chunky acrylic paint

And recently I've been messing around with watercolor but I don't have the proper paper and it bleeds everywhere. I'm about fed up with it

Some of these are copies of artwork I found online but some came straight from my crazy head😁 I know I'm not as good as pretty much anyone on here but maybe it'll inspire another beginner☺️

:) I love the colors. Creativity is so amazing.

My guess would be paper quality followed by too much water. Prewetting the paper causes colors to bleed into either the water or adjacent colors.

I'm using Canson water color paper that I get off of Amazon. I highly recommend shopping for supplies there. Super affordable and fast shipping.

You might try doing wet on dry, meaning thin down your water colors with water and apply to dry paper. Getting the right amount of water in the paint is basically trial and error. I keep a sheet of rejected paper (a work I didn't like) close by and experiment with my paint until I get it a right consistency. If you get it too watery it's going to run on you.

@4yearsofchickens, have you tried water color pencils? They are amazingly fun to work with. I've been experimenting with them and adding them to regular tube watercolors.

The sunset lake is an example of this technique. The sky and water was done with water color pencils on dry paper. You have to get the color down pretty dense to get the desired effect but it's fun to do. The moon rise is a work in progress.

You Tube has a wealth of videos offering tutorials for all art medias. Once you start watching you are hooked! It's like being a kid in a candy store.

Oh maybe that's what is wrong... I'm using the pallet of watercolor that you add water to..like for kids (stuff I had from school) I do already do paint on dry paper, I only wet it if I want to blend the colors or I'm doing one whole color (like my unicorn painting I posted). I think maybe I'm just using too much paint/water on my brush. I do have watercolor pens/markers that I use occasionally. I used them on the picture with the butterfly and violets. But they don't spread out very well. I do also have watercolor pencils, I had forgotten about them! I will get them out and try them later. Thanks for your help!
