He is titled the crimson prince by his family and friends because when he was only 13, he volunteered to fight on the front lines during an attack (the same attack where he rescued young George). After it was over, he appeared bathed in blood.

And for some reason, George was not afraid of him despite all of the blood. Brotherly love at first sight....or rescue, whatever works first and best.
