I'm not very good at giving advice, but I'll try my best for you
I would say be sure to reference both real life and artists you like. If you're really having trouble you can trace the lineart from an animated movie or show you like and notice how it's drawn, then try on your own. I guess you could trace independent artist's work as well but only for practice. Definitely DO NOT post it online or claim it as your own. Be sure to watch tips and tutorial videos; make a pinterest board for art tips.
And of course, practice a lot. Then after a few months, make sure to look back at old art and see how you improve without even knowing!
