Well I can say that while we both have realistic styles ours do look very different. Though I really need to practice to achieve the same level of detail you do.
How do you achieve the tiny white highlights? :popNothing I have has a fine enough point except my white pens but the brand I got just doesn't work very well.
Pointillism is fun! I drew a guinea keet in pointillism a few years ago.

That's so cute!

I'm going to do a selection to show the range I am capable of
Typical watercolor (I need to learn how to paint a background a pleasing color because white on white is not it

I started experimenting more with colored pencil but I wouldn't call this typical because this is the first time I've really attempted realism in colored pencil on a chicken (i only discovered how to do colored pencil birds this October)

I am in awe of your pencil drawings, I love them so much! I should really work on my chicken drawings more, I’ve only ever done quick sketches. I hope to approach your level of realism someday 🤪

The small details and highlights are done with a very small round brush in acrylics or gouache depending on the main medium (those paintings are acrylics).

Thank you! I appreciate this comment a lot!
I'm starting to see what makes my chicken art style different and starting to believe my chicken drawings and human drawings don't belong in the same universe.
My chicken drawings: fine lines, crisp high contrast
My human drawings: waaay softer
I very rarely draw chickens, I have just one recent one that I drew for Birdtober.

Love how you rendered the beak and eye!

I have white watercolor paint (which is really gouache because it isn't transparent) but my problem is I can't get it to a thick enough consistency to do strong little dots like that! *Huffs*

Yeah, the watercolor (or gouache) pans are difficult to make opaque. Wetting it and letting it dry a little before using it helps some. But I recommend getting a good white gouache or acrylic in the tube. I use Golden Fluid acrylics (fluid is better for small marks than heavy body), M. Graham gouache, and Holbein acrylic gouache (which is just opaque matte acrylics). All the budget brands are less opaque because they contain less pigment.
