Go to your local market and look at honey labels. You may have beekeepers who are close to you and would be willing to give you some hands on. Check the above thread though. Good advice and different methods from the west coast to the east coast and in between.

@HoneyCreekFarm, where are you located? Just like with chickens and gardening, your climate will have a lot to do with how you manage your bees. What works -- or doesn't! -- for me in Michigan is different from what works in different climates.

Right now I feel like I'm in Michigan! DW's cousin's DH is from there and has a Place in Mio. BRRRRRR! Maybe visit when they go there for the summer.
