any body love silver spangled hamburgs as much as me? share info.

This is my SSH "speckles"
She is a real character, she flies in an out of my 6' fenced run at will even though she has had a wing clipped.

She lays a medium sized egg almost every day.

We love our SSH rooster!!! That's him in my avatar...

He is our free rare breed from McMurrays. We had opted NOT to get the free chick but they sent him anyways. We weren't happy about it back then and had every intention of putting him on the supper table.

As he got older, we fell in love with his coloration and personality. He makes sure that the girls know were the tasty morsels of food are and sees that they eat first and he is always the last one to roost, making sure the girls are safe in bed, first.

I've fallen so hard for him that we are completely renovating the flock in hopes of finding him some SSH ladies. I won some SSH hatching eggs awhile back but had a zero percent hatch...talk about a bummer!

I had one hen. Her name was Wendy because DH would tell people she was a Star Spangled Hamburger. Every spring she would find a way out of the fence and lay eggs in the neighbor's yard. She actually went broody! She was attacked by a fox one year and I managed to save her. She did the same thing the next year but the fox won that time. : ( she was pretty but not particularly friendly.
