Don't know if you can hazard a guess as to a chick's breed, but this little one was one we hatched for preschool about 10 years ago. I never knew what breed or gender it was, and was curious. (It was from a small Eastern Iowa poultry farm, if that helps.)

Thanks!

do you have a pic of your 10 year old chicken?
it would be a lot easier to identify

it it still alive?

Ha ha, nope. 10 years old would indeed be easier to identify. Tragically, Peep set fire to her coop at her new home, and died of smoke inhalation a day later.

I had a little gal like that last year. She was out of a cinnamon queen by a barred rock......her brother came out black and ended up barred before he became dinner. She was a house chicken for a while but eventually found a new home.

I would say Peep was a white leghorn because of the single comb. Here is a picture of two of my white EEs and they are obviously a white leghorn cross and look a lot like your peep did.

I'm gonna weigh one in and say White Leghorn. Cornish crosses are much wider and bigger, this bird has a single comb, and a thin, production type body, and Leghorns are pretty common.
