I agree..even though it is very interesting reading (Mahronis' post) and very important, the "bottom line" to me is ..He Is Risen ..and to remember that daily and apply it to my daily life..not just on a certain Sunday, one time a year!!

Dates are interesting, however, it's the person and character of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Preserved Word that should always be the main focus. And I'm sure SpeckledRoo would agree 100%.

Psalm 12:6 has this to say about how He would always preserve His Word:

The words of the LORD are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.
You shall keep them, O LORD,
You shall preserve them from this generation forever.

That's very important stuff to remember. And if He couldn't do that, He would ineffectual and not be worthy of worship. But, He did.

Here is the way I teach the Passion week. It comes from the KJV. I make note of the version because certain elements can only be found in the KJV.

When figuring the day Christ died according to scripture we
need points of reference, Time Elements(TE). I will list the
time elements to make studying this easier.

TE: Six days before the passover. The passover is the 14th, so six days before is the 8th.

John 12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to
Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he
raised from the dead.

Numbers 28: 16 And in the fourteenth day of the first month
is the passover of the LORD.

TE: Supper is the meal served after 6pm which starts a new day, the 9th.

Jn 12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

TE: At least a full day of activities

Jn 12:3 Mary anointed the feet of Jesus,
Jn 12:9 Much people of the Jews came to see Jesus and Lazarus

TE: On the next day...the 10th

Jn 12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

Jn 12:13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

What is important about the 10th day?

Exodus 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Exodus 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

Christ the lamb comes into the house to be examined until the 14th when he will be killed.

TE: now the eventide was come..at 6pm a new day started the 11th

Mark 11: 11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

TE: And on the morrow..the morning of the 11th Jesus returns to the temple

Mark 11:12 And on the morrow,
Jesus curses the fig tree
Mark 11:15 Jesus overthrew the tables of the moneychangers,

TE: when even was come..before 6pm..end of the 11th and start of the 12th

Mark 11:19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.

TE: And in the morning..morning of the 12th

Mark 11:20 And in the morning,
Mark 11:27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes,

TE: departed from the temple..again at the end of the day

Christ departs the temple after teaching all day

Matthew 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple:
Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives,

TE:after two days is the feast of the passover(12+2=14)

Matthew 26:2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

TE: they made ready the passover..the 13th

Matthew 26:17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
Matthew 26:19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

TE: when the even was come..6pm..start of the 14th passover

Matthew 26:20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
Matt 26:21 And as they did eat,

Mark 14:26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Mark 14:35-42 Jesus prays
Mark 14:43- Jesus is betrayed and taken
Mark 14:53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest:

TE: cock crow is the watch at about 2:30am

Matthew 26:74 Peter denies Christ third time
Matthew 26:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

TE: even in this night..Jesus knew it was to be night when Peter would deny him

Mark 14:30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

TE: in the morning..morning of the 14th..passover

Mark 15:1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

Luke 23:7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
Luke 23:11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
John 19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
John 19:2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

TE: about the sixth hour..6am Roman time Jesus is presented to the people

John 19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

TE: sixth hour..unto the ninth hour.. Sixth hour Hebrew time equals 12:00pm – ninth hour equals 3:00pm

John 19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

TE: at the ninth hour..3pm on the 14th

Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice
Mark 15:37 and gave up the ghost

TE: When the even was come..Before 6:00pm the start of Unleavened Bread

Matthew 27:57, 58 When the even was come, Joseph of Arimathaea, begged the body of Jesus.

TE: because it was the preparation..
TE: for that sabbath day was an high day. Jewish High Day Sabbath called Unleavened Bread

John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,)

TE: the sabbath drew on..still before 6pm, the start of the High day sabbath

John 19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre,
John 19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day;
Luke 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
Luke 23:55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

Note:at this point there are no guards

TE: the next day, that followed the day of the preparation..Unleavened Bread..the 15th

Matthew 27:62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
Matthew 27: 63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

Pilot tells the priests to guard the tomb themselves..

Matt 27:65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

Note:now the temple guards are present for three days

TE:rested the sabbath day..rested on Unleavened Bread, the High Day Sabbath..then returned with spices..the 16th

Luke 24:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

TE:17th

Note:the women could not get into the tomb because guards are now present. They must wait until the three days are complete and the guards are gone.

TE: 6pm the 17th Friday began the weekly Sabbath

Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

TE: Still the (weekly)sabbath day..just before 6pm Saturday..as it began to dawn TOWARD the first day of the week..
TE:It is not the first day of the week. It is still Saturday the sabbath

TE: after 6pm the first day of the week..18th

Matt 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

TE: when the sabbath was past..Mary returns

Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Note: Mary did not see the stone rolled away when she came to the tomb late on the sabbath day because she asks this question..Who shall roll us away the stone?

Mark 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Mark 16:3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

TE:first day of the week, very early in the morning..Sunday 18th

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre

Matt 28:7 Jesus is risen from the dead;
Mark 16:9 he appeared first to Mary Magdalene
Mark 16:12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
Luke 24:13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus,

TE:the third day since these things were done..remember this day began at 6pm the night before.

While talking to the risen Lord the two men say..
Lk 24:21 to day is the third day since these things were done.

so lets count back..
0. 18th..6pm Saturday...First day of the week Christ is risen
1. 17th..Before 6pm Saturday was the weekly Sabbath which began at 6pm Friday
2. 16th..Thursday..Women try to approach the tomb with spices
3. 15th..Wednesday after 6pm Unleavened Bread Highday Sabbath

Before 6pm on Wednesday was the 14th Passover, Arrest, Crucifixion and Burial Day according to scripture.

If someone is worried that the 10th, when Christ road into Jerusalem might be a sabbath day. It was and the travel from the Mt of Olives was legal according to the law.

Lk 19:37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

Acts 1:12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

" For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, and whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." Amen. God didn't have to send Jesus but He chose to!
I guess that shows just how much He loves us!

Hi!
Hey- what does this have to do with chickens?!

Well, God made us and them.
I thank Him for our chickens and am so thankful that He gives us wisdom to care for them.
I'm often reminded through daily life with our precious little chicks things from the Bible:
how Jesus longed to gather His people (in Jerusalem) like a hen gathers her chicks(Mt. 23:37, Luke 13:34)
how it is described of our Heavenly Father as One under Whose wings we find refuge
(Ruth 2:12; Psalms 36:7, 57:1, 61:4, 91:4) Hallelujah for that great comfort!
....and I think sometimes of what He must feel like chasing us around when we should simply be coming to Him who feeds us and cares for us,
but instead we go running after one another. Yet He is so much more patient with us than I am with my chickens. Thank God- He is so good to us.

To those now believing and those yet seeking-
May the Father bless you all with peace grace & joy in His Son Jesus!

I second that!!!!!

Do any of you have a favorite Chirstian fictional author or book? Just looking for some books to read. Checked a couple out at the library today and am looking for suggestions.

Also, could you keep my Grandpa in your prayers. He is in the hospital and had a procedure done to drain/flush his kidneys. He'd had bladder cancer and received radiation for it last year. Well, now his bladder is crystalized and is no longer of use, thus backing up into his kidneys. His bladder is not of use any longer and he will have it removed and have to have a bag. He's 84 years old and of the mindset that he doesn't necessarily trust doctors -- has been very blessed and has never had any medical issues until now. So please pray for a good recovery, the doctors, and that my Grandpa will be at ease with treatment, etc. Thank you so very much!
