My favorite Christian book (other than the Bible, of course

) is The Shack.

And prayers are incoming.

My teacher told me about that book.
Isn't God represented by an African American woman or something?
I go to a Christian school and my teacher's vey religious so she didn't really like that aspect.

It's just a perpective though right?

I read the Shack and have heard all the stuff about how "controvercial" it was.

It was beautiful, and it presented God as something we can't understand, not necessarily as a woman. The point was that God isn't a King/man on a throne we should fear. The purpose of the African American woman was to challenge our preconceptions of who God is, NOT to suggest that God is a woman. And that was made very clear in the book.

There were some theological problems, but mostly it was really about the fact that God is all about a relationship with you. He is not interested in the church you go to or the legality of your religion. Only a relationship with the one-and-only you. It presented God's unfailing love for us in a pretty acurate way.

It also attempted to answer the age old question "If there is a loving God, why does he let bad things happen to innocent people?" Did a pretty good job, too. It did a great job of making God accessible to all.

Make sure you read it before judging it. You might like it.

I like anything by Hugh Nibley, Chris Heimerdinger is fun, and Mathew Buckley (the Chickens in the Headlights series) had the kids just rolling on the floor!! What's better than a little spirituality mixed in with chickens?
Honestly, though, we read the Chickens books out loud to eachother, and just laughed so hard we were wiping tears away. There's a great learning experience for kids ( why you are nice to everyone, how to learn & listen, joy is in the journey, among other "Christian life lessons"), and lots of fun chickening as well ~ Take for instance the chapter that explores just HOW this family of 7 boys manages to move 30 odd chickens, some goats, and 5 of the 7 brothers (plus dad, he was driving) from the old farmer's place to their place..... in the family van.....without any cages, or trapping devices of any sort.....

If you like chicken books, with a bent towards being a good Christian, and like to laugh, you have GOT to read these books!!

( I think the other one is called Bullies in the Headlights)

I was just saying my teacher didn't seem to like that aspect.
It does sound good I'll have to try it.

I get out of school late on Thurs.. 10pm and have a 2 hour commute.... about 15 minutes from home tonight there was HORRIBLE car accident. It was just a few cars in front of me.. Cars twisted and mangled and one almost split another in half. Please be praying for the people who where in this accident in Roseville CA.. Not sure if anyone survived. I am very shook up right now.. it so easily could have been me.... the images of those vehicles is so disturbing and as we funneled past them, I was only a few feet away... very vivid...

jeaucamom .. sorry about that .. it's hard to get those images out of your head sometimes ..
