Any California gardeners?

It was wonderful before they closed down, now they only sell on Saturday and don’t have veggies or seeds or anything like that.

They were always more of an ornamental plant and tree type of nursery is the impression I had.

I got my first pepper today!!!! Hot banana pepper. It was hiding in the pepper bushes and somehow I missed it until this evening. There are some more, smaller peppers on that one also.

I need to make some compost tea for some of the plants again this weekend.

And find a better way to deal with these aphids!!!

So. It's official!!!
I have chickens at my place now!!! I hadn't lived on the same property as the chickens since the fire in 2018. Except for a few stray chicks i kept inside and found other homes for.
These guys inhabit my garden, in a flimsy little fence made of step in T posts and construction fencing. They are too fat and lazy to destroy my garden, and are "temporary residents" until they are moved to their permanent home in my freezer in a couple of months. I've been wanting to do this since before I closed on the house!
In other news, the garden itself is getting big. Looks like the first cucumber will be soon, and I have tomatos starting to set and grow now. Still waiting on my eggplants to set fruit.

I'd be really interested to see pics of some of your squash hybrids. It sounds like an amazingly fun mad scientist experiment for the garden, and I'm guessing you get a lot of really unique and pretty results!

This is my morning harvest, this is a spaghetti squash that I crossed with a jack o lantern exited to see what it is next year. and these are marrow x spaghetti x zucchini that I make into zucchini bread. The potatoes are from that Bag of mini Red and white Potatoes that are at Costco.

Those are definitely some beautiful squash! I think you've inspired me to save some of my own seeds this year. I certainly wouldn't mind some summer squash hybrids, my zephyr squash hybrid seems to be a good little plant.

Sometimes it can be hard to tell what you're going to get with potatoes from the store, I have a suspicion those hybridize easily too. I dug my first plant up yesterday (not nearly as impressive a harvest as yours) and I am pretty sure I planted red potatoes? But these were white. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

I found some!!!! I really missed my walking onions. Looking forward to many years of these in the garden.

In other news, I registered for the master gardener training class this fall. Classes are supposed to be almost all online, so this will be interesting to try to navigate. Still, I am very excited! I almost took the plant propagation class, but it was only 2 units and I needed a 3 unit class.
