Any Chance of getting an area Specifically for Organic Q's

Well, thanks for the help and support everybody.

The staff is going to be talking about it now, but any feedback from all of us, the humble public, will help them to see the need I believe.

I have cleaned up this thread of repetitive comments.

Once again, the staff is discussing it. Nothing is ever accomplished in a few hours on something liek this.

In the meantime, please do go to our sister site Sufficient Self and start a thread there and get started talking about organic meats and such.

You might be surprised at the response you will get.

That is absolutely correct.

The place to start is there at Sufficient Self.

Look up Beekissed and start talking organics!

Cast my vote as well for an organic chicken raising/sustainability section. I am on an organic farm and have much to learn about organic/sustainable methods...

Within this forum, folks could share ideas and learn about new ideas!

Thanks for the consideration, moderators!

Adding my voice for one as well!

We garden organically and I'd LOVE any and all suggestions about how to raise our chickens that way too.

The reason I think it should be an entire section and not just a thread or two is because there are so many different discussions that would be held within that section - egg laying birds, meat birds, using chickens in the garden, specific threads about different ways to organically feed chickens, how owning chickens affects a person going for organic certification of their farm (if your chicken free range, you cannot buy any plants whatsoever for your property anywhere, even ornamental, that are not organic), etc.

I think there would be endless different threads within the section.

People wonder what might be offensive to others. The two that come quickly to mind are people who use chemicals as opposed to those who don't. When you feel passionately about something, it's easy to unknowingly offend another. The other is the topic of birds raised for meat. Very touchy when many raise chickens for eggs and/or pets. In a separate section, people not interested in meat birds can just avoid those threads altogether.

Many thanks to the admins who are considering this proposal! I am really eggcited about the possibility!!

Please add my vote in favour of an organic section in BYC, for the same reasons as already stated by everyone else. I think those of us trying to raise chickens organically can make more progress faster if we are discussing our questions among people who already understand where we're coming from--and know about chickens.

Thank you, Weaveagarden, for suggesting an organic section; and thank you, Moderators, for considering it.

"I'd like to see this, too. If you post in "Meat Birds" about organic or sustainable anything, you just get trampled by people who don't understand it. You have sift through pages of unhelpful comments to find one or two things that might apply. Even just trying to compare notes with people who have similar interests can be very frustrating."

This is why I called it a possible "hot button" issue. Sufficient Self is currently a much smaller forum, and not as opinionated as BYC can occasionally become.

The Easy Garden is another such forum, and a real delight. And there has been some talk of growing food for chickens there.

The links to both of these BYC sister forums are at the bottom of the page, and I would LOVE for more BYCers to come hang out!
