i think that is a wonderful idea! i would love to see a dedicated section. i have searched numerous times here for organic/natural questions with very very little luck.

just want to chime in with agreement that an organic section would be fantastic. Now that byc is so big and so many of its users are so mainstream ( I first used it , what, 8 years ago?) it is hard to get the info or advice that is applicable. I tried to say that very carefully, but if I pushed anyone's buttons I apologize in advance.


and for me, a thread in meat birds wouldn't work as I'm not raising meat birds.

I'ld just like a place to discuss chicken issues without the majority of responses being from a different world than the one I live in. You sure wouldn't think it would crop up so much, but wow, it truly does. And I don't think I can quite explain how without inadvertently making someone feel bad.

I'd like to add the suggestion that this section could encompass permaculture-style gardening with poultry. I like it! I'd read it.

As I've learned more, I find that some of the sections I've frequented in the past (coop building, for example) are less of interest. I still poke in now and again to see if I can share my knowledge, but I'm not a daily visitor. An organic / natural section would likely be of ongoing interest to me. THANKS, mods and nifty, for the consideration!

No offense intended, I think it would be a better idea for the Sustainable Self forum, simply because there is more commonality of beliefs and lifestyles there. It would be great if someone started an Organic Chicken Raising thread there!

It's not nearly as likely to become a hot button issue there. Why not start one, I'll come participate. (I don't know enough to start one.)

wow. why ever would it be a hot button issue? If there was a section titled "organic", surely if you felt that was the silliest thing you had ever heard you wouldn't bother visiting the section, would you?

I'm thinking it is more of a hot button issue when you are talking about whether or not to use chemicals, insecticides, medicated feed, antibiotics up the wingwang, manufactured food like substances which aren't food, etc - thats when people sometimes appear to feel challenged/hurt/etc .

perhaps there could be a trial - if after some period of time (i'm guessing staff would have an idea about what might make sense for an appropriate amount of time), the section was not used, or mis-used, it could be abolished?

also, just want to point out the idea that just because there might be other places on the web that such a section could be housed isn't really a convincing argument - there are certainly other places where random ramblings, humor, games, selling stuff, family news,etc could be housed, but people like it being here for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they are identifying as "chicken people" , or like being able to cruise byc and indulge in areas of their interests that might not be chicken related at the same time.

an "organic" section on chickens on byc seems to make such good sense!
