wow. why ever would it be a hot button issue? If there was a section titled "organic", surely if you felt that was the silliest thing you had ever heard you wouldn't bother visiting the section, would you?
I'm thinking it is more of a hot button issue when you are talking about whether or not to use chemicals, insecticides, medicated feed, antibiotics up the wingwang, manufactured food like substances which aren't food, etc - thats when people sometimes appear to feel challenged/hurt/etc .
perhaps there could be a trial - if after some period of time (i'm guessing staff would have an idea about what might make sense for an appropriate amount of time), the section was not used, or mis-used, it could be abolished?
also, just want to point out the idea that just because there might be other places on the web that such a section could be housed isn't really a convincing argument - there are certainly other places where random ramblings, humor, games, selling stuff, family news,etc could be housed, but people like it being here for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they are identifying as "chicken people" , or like being able to cruise byc and indulge in areas of their interests that might not be chicken related at the same time.
an "organic" section on chickens on byc seems to make such good sense!
