That is what I've been thinking. These were sold to me as pullets...of the three replacement chicks I seem to have gotten two more cockerels. Of 12 specifically supposed to be pullets I seem to have 4 pullets and 8 cockerels.

I guess I should just count my blessings that they all seem to be healthy.

There is truth therein. That being said, depending on your situation having a bunch of extra boys could cause you headaches ahead. If you intend to do any breeding, having a spare rooster does have advantages in case something awful happens to your prized male. Here is a hint: It is usually your best bird that ends up getting hurt by a predator or some neighbors nasty dogs. Having a second string breeder is nigh essential.

Yes, the same holds true with my goats. If something happens to my adult buck then I am set back a couple of years, unless I can afford a full grown one - not too likely with them.

I really hadn't planned on quite so many cockerels.

As much as I might wish otherwise, all three have confirmed themselves to be cockerels. Two started crowing within the last week, and the third is getting those rather long tail feathers ... at least I don't think hens get tail feathers like that.

Even though that one doesn't seem to be crowing yet it has the overall body type of a cockerel, along with having grown wattles and a comb early on.

I got 10 RIR from the local TSC mid-April this year. Unfortantely, I let the meth-head pick them out.

I have five that look like ones in the OPs pics. That's not all bad because I'll now have a pick of the one or two roosters that I want to keep, I'll turn the others into fried chicken and learn how to process chickens along the way and it will be easier for my wife and I to deal with the other 5 hens and their daily 4-5 eggs each day.

So it's still win-win in my book. Well, except for the memory of seeing the "teeth" of that meth-head......
