Any clues to what gender is this 4-5week SLW?

Next pics are of what I believe is a pullet

OH I see what you mean now by shield looking. Has anyone else confirmed this theory? Its the first I have heard of it.

I'll have to go out and take another look at Silver! LOL

I had read someone said to look at the comb and the birds with the "wider part at the bottom" are roo's. I didn't know what he was talking about until they were a couple weeks older, this was when they were probably 2 weeks old. They didn't look any different to me. NOW they do look different and have for a few weeks. And the color on the combs are now differnet too. I can't say this is a fool proof way to tell, as mine have not confirmed it for me yet. I am curious if your have different shaped combs, and what you think.

Are both those chickens the same breed? I only have one Wyandotte. The other five chicks are all different and combs are all different. But I am going to go out and take a look. Maybe try to snap some pictures.
How old are your chicks?

Yes they are both Wyandottes. Just different colors. He is a Golden Laced Wyandotte, She is a Blue Laced Red. I have several Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and they have either a shield or a straight comb. The ones with the shields look like the GL roo pics and the ones with the straight combs look like the BLR pullet pics I posted. They are 7 -8 weeks I believe. I have kind of lost track. The thread where I read about the "wider at the bottom" combs mean it's a roo was specifically on sexing Wyandotte chicks thread.

Yeah the combs will look WAY different for each breed. So crossing breeds with theorys won't work. I have wyandottes, orpingtons, and araucanas. They all have different signs to look for to try and determine the sex.

Here is a "shield" looking comb on a BLR wyandotte

I do see what you mean now. Unfortunantly, I can't get my SLW to pose for a picture. HAHA. And she is a bit younger than yours. Guess time will tell.
