Any educated guesses on what breed / gender this chick is?

Hello everyone!

So I recently fell down the rabbit hole of chicken keeping a few weeks back. Long story short, on the 25th of February, I ended up saving a chick from a wild Arabian Red Fox that had wondered into the suburbs of Kuwait. At the time the chick only had a few feathers on it's wings, the rest of it was covered in fluff, so my guess would be that it was perhaps less than a week old at the time. It's almost 3 weeks later, and I'm wondering what sex and breed of chicken he/she is. I have my guesses, but I would love to hear from some people with more experience.

It's a boy, I'm not what breed it could be since I'm sure there are breeds there that I've never heard of.

Very cute! A bit too young to know gender and since I am not familiar with the speed of maturity of potential breeds, I don't want to jump to conclusions! Where are you from so I can research some breeds?

Generally speaking from my research, I've found that the majority of neighborhood chickens are a breed called "Arabi" which translates to Arabian; of which from my understanding is a breed that consists of a multitude of breeds of chickens from all over the world but mainly the M.E.N.A region and Asia, that have simply survived the harsh 130 deg fahrenheit summers here in Kuwait and continued to be productive (So they come in all sorts of colors). I know that Western broiler breeds are also commonly flown in and hybridized with the Arabi breed to produce chicks with a stronger resistance to heat. However, there's a fair sized community of people who also raise show chickens, as I've personally witnessed a Roo and two hens sell for over 300USD in a bidding on an Instagram account, which apparently frequently happens here.


I have to admit I'm a little sad to read that people are thinking it's a cockerel. I had this whole plan of having 6-8 hens running around my humble central garden, and collecting multi-colored eggs on the daily. Heck I made a down-payment on a coop and scoured the country to finally find a farm who is going to sell me some Buff Orpington, Lavender Araucana, Maran and Cream Legbar pullets in about two weeks.

I can't have a Roo living in my central garden, the noise would be unbearable since every bedroom has a window that faces the garden.

I see it has a Buttercup comb. I'm thinking it's a mix, a mix of what I'm not sure. Possibly a mix of some sort of Gamefowl based on body type.

Kuwait, a small country in the Arabian Gulf. I'll try to keep updating with pictures in hopes that maybe in a couple weeks it starts looking more like a hen rather than a Roo. I doubt that is how these things work though haha.

I'm surprised you saw that from the picture I took! Yes, the right side of his/her comb is black and the left side yellowish in color.

That's just coloration from him having extended black upon partridge it looks like.

Buttercup is a comb variety that's not common only on a few different breeds, like Sicilian Buttercups for example.
