I didn't think my Ameraucana was ready to lay (such a small comb, but that's part of the breed) until I found one of her eggs in the nest box. Easily distinguishable from my brown layers and obviously hers. I even have one girl that lays an extremely light almost cream egg and the Americana egg is notably different. She is doing well in the cold. A bit flighty. A bit smaller than some of my other birds.
