Any Experience with Ordering Started Pullets?

I recently lost one of my girls to a predator. No fun, but I know that's part of the whole chicken experience. Anyway, I would like to find some started pullets to replace her, but have always started from chicks. Has anyone ordered started pullets? What's the good and the bad? Anything I should be aware of? What's the pick up process once they come it? I have a small flock that can't grow much more, but I will be ordering 2. Also it looks like Meyer is the most cost effective.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I have 2 Easter Egger started pullets on order from Meyer this week. I am really nervous about the trimmed beaks as I do not want deformed birds. Someone on another forum said that she has gotten hundreds of started pullets from Meyer and they have worked out well. Some, like her Easter Eggers, look good while some look awful but are really good layers. I am tempted to cancel my order and buy from a local source that does not trim beaks. I will let you know what I decide and if I get the ones from Meter, I will be sure to post photos.

Well, we must be getting two from the same group because I have 2 easter eggers coming this week too. I didn't think much about the trimmed beak, but mostly that's from ignorance. I seriously hope they will be ok! I would prefer to buy locally, but for some reason there are very few here. And furthermore, I think I would take the chance with a reputable hatchery than with a local that I don't know.

Did you cancel? Are yours being shipped on the 4th too? Let's check back in this week and see how they turned out!

My husband says I should keep my order and roll the dice. Hopefully, we will have good results! I will definitely post photos either way.

They are on their way! I will have my EEs tomorrow! I am very excited and nervous.

Did you pick yours up?

Got the automated phone call yesterday that they were on there way and would be here anywhere between today and Saturday! I truly hope they aren't in transit until Saturday! I'm planning on calling my post office today and notifying them.

I can't wait either! Post some pics if you get yours today!

I would definitely call them. The tracking said PO to addressee, which means they would be delivered to my house. I don't get mail until late afternoon, so, I called and they said they would hold them and call me for pick up. I haven't:( received the call, yet. :( so nerve wracking!
