Any Finch Lovers out There?

Thanks so much! The finch was born on the 16th and there are still 5 eggs that haven't hatched. When or should I remove them? It has got a bit chillier here (not chilly....like chilly, lol!) would that make a difference? They are still being obiedent parents, so that's good!
It's funny I picked those 2 society's randomly out of a cage of about 15 and they laid eggs. I had my pair of zebras for probably 3 weeks to a month longer and they just are busy making nests and remaking nests..but no eggs. Maybe they were younger? Do you think it would hurt the pair to add them to 4 other zebras I have and see what happens? The 4 are quite young to. Thank you!

Even if the other eggs don't hatch just leave them as they'll act as hot water bottles for the little chick. Once it's fledged you can take any unhatched ones out. Even if they have unhatched chicks in them they won't go bad (like a chicken egg can explode), they'll just dry out.

Your society finches must've been well matched and lucky you to get a pair. The zebras may not be well matched so adding some more would be a good thing as then they can choose their partners.

Thank you! The baby finch seems to be doing well. No new hatches. The 2 zebras I have get a long very well, I think that the female was really young when I got them. The other 4 in a separate cage were really young to infact to of them still had black beaks. Those 4 all sleep together, it's so cute!

I have society finches (love them - they are always so cheerful) and I have fawn Java finches. One Java will be lonely on its own so I'd try to find it a friend. Javas come in a few different colours and they are beautiful birds. The boys sing beautifully too.
Do your javas live with your soc's, or are they too big/mean?

I have 4 Java finches and (I think) 8 Society finches. I've never seen any bullying but the Javas are highly strung things. They've got better because I spend so much time in my aviary. Unlike my Societies who sneak up behind me to play with my hair!
Ok. I was just worried about them since they are so huge.

They do look big and are often not recommended with smaller finches, but as long as they are in the minority they don't seem to bother other birds. They prefer to squabble amongst themselves really.
Would a pair do well in with 4 societies? The zebras are just to much to handle with their constant bickering so they might be finding a new home.

As long as there was a good amount of space and more than enough nestboxes for everyone (if you are wanting to breed them) they should be just fine. The male Javas sing beautifully and they are hilarious as they do their hopping dance for their mate. Occasionally they will 'yell' at each other but it's short lived and seems to be part of Java interactions.

I love society finches, spice finches & orange-cheeked waxbills. They all get along in the same aviary together with my canaries, too. It's so funny to watch them all try to pile in the same sleeping nest together, all on top of each other!
