Thank you so much for the FL forum !! It was just what I was looking for. (I was blown away by how many local members are on here !)

I wanted to know if there were other local options for selling our chickens we hatched out this Spring.

So far we've used on-line classified ads, and attended one out of town swap and sale.

I'm wondering about local livestock auctions? (I hear all sorts of different things about them)

Are the best places to sell chickens at chicken shows?

What works best for you guys ?

Thanks,
Lisa

I have a flyer in my local feed stores and our local Tractor Supply Company. Most people want pullets so when I have an excess of cockerels I take them to the auction near where I live. The summer prices aren't to good so I do better at the auction in the spring, late summer and fall. I do a lot of hatching so I usually have a lot of cockerels. I first take my birds to any local swaps and what I don't sell at the swaps I take to the auction. Some people will want a boy just to introduce a new blood line into their flocks. I raise Rhode Island Reds, Isa Browns and Rhode Island Whites. I will be looking for a new Rhode Island White cockerel soon. My hatches are pretty much 50/50 but can go 60/40 pullets to cockerels.
