I completely understand its near impossible to get good show birds from hatcheries, over the years we got lucky with a beautiful white silkie and a silver laced sebright they weren't perfect but good enough to be a breeders culls they were more like breeder quality. But I've gotten to the point were I can sometimes tell which hatchery certain birds are from at 4h fairs because each one kind of has there own look for each breed. And I'm wondering does any hatchery have a certain breed that tends to be better than other hatcheries? Like I think cackles silkies look better than mcmuarys. Ideals Dutch bantams are better than cackles

Silkielover,
Your best bet is to search online for the clubs and
associations that are in your state, for the breeds you want.
They should have breeder lists, & they should be closer.

Hatching eggs from breeders is always a risk, but browsing
thru the Buy-Sell-Trade on here for those in your state or close
nearby states might find you a source.
Another category on here is your state, under Social -
"Where Am I? Where Are You?
and then there is the Advanced Search capability on here, too.....

I get the Strombergs Catalog,
and they have a show quality catagory,
but they are not cheap. Besides, I have never
seen any references on this site about their
show quality.

Good Luck!

about the only thing I get from hatcheries are meat birds and maybe some ducks. That said, I have been very pleased with Ideals ducks, McMurrays's ducks and guineas. I LOVE Metzer Farms ducks and geese.
