After the loss of most of my flock, due to an unknown animal. I have, or had, two separate flocks, a smaller, more ornamental bantam one and the one that was attacked. This one was some of my first hens and a few hens that I hatched myself, so as you can imagine, I'm quite devastated. I've decided to start a new standard sized flock. Tomorrow is the start of the demolition of the coop, after tearing it down the construction of the new, safer coop will begin.

After the new coop is up I'll start on the new flock. Having incubated before I think I'll find some hatching eggs and start my flock that way. I've never bought any hatching eggs before, preferring to hatch from my own hens. The breeds don't really matter at the moment, I also like the challenge of figuring out what breeds I end up with.

If you've had a good experience with a seller on BYC, eBay or some other site, or if you yourself sell hatching eggs, I would love to hear from you.:love

I ordered eggs from ebay and all were ruptured air cell. I put them in the incubator last Wednesday and yesterday evening I candled just 3 to see. 2 had questionable potential growth and the 3rd definitely did. So I'm going to keep going, do a full candle probably Wednesday when they're a week in and see where we stand.

I do sell fertile hatching eggs. It really depends on the type of chicken. I have sold many eggs from my Barnevelders which have been shipped all over the U.S. with an 80% hatch rate. This is great for shipped eggs. With my Seramas it varies. I usually sell 6 fertile eggs from my Seramas and usually only 2-3 will hatch. This is going by feedback from my customers. How you ship is very important. We take great care in shipping, however once they are in the post office we can not control there handling. We have never had any broken eggs received by customers but that doesn't mean they weren't tossed around a bit. On EBay you can check customers reviews before buying. as far as BYC I am not sure how that works. The best advice is do your research before buying and make sure you are completely comfortable before hitting the "buy now" button. Most reputable businesses do regular checks on there fertility.

The type of Barnevelder I have is the golden laced, not the blue. I am sorry. I am sure if you put an add up on BYC someone will have them. I imported mine from Europe so I can have a clean bloodline as I do have a little business, however there are many great breeders all over with beautiful chickens that are true to what you are looking for. I wish you the best of luck! Out of all my birds they are truly the best. They are calm and my roosters are not aggressive at all they get along with my Seramas which are much smaller, and they are beautiful.

I would love to see pictures of your birds anyway! They sound lovely! Did you already post pictures on the Barnevelder thread?

I will go out there today and take some photos to share. I am new to this site and I have no idea about the Barnevelder thread lol.

So here are my Golden Double Laced Barnevelder pics. I took one with my juvenile Seramas to show you that the Barnevelders don't mind them at all. I will take better pictures when its cooler as it is 100 degrees in Florida today.
