Any homebrewers on here? If so, is it safe to feed homebrew sediment?

Thought I'd update! I brewed my stout and before any hops were added I steeped the grains (all barley- a mix of chocolate and caramel malts) in hot water. I let the chickens have the mixture after it had cooled to lukewarm. They LOVED it!

Wow, glad to hear it. I wish my chickens weren't so spoiled. Now that they are older maybe I'll try it again. I'm going to make a porter here real soon.

We homebrew as well, glad to know our chickens can enjoy the left overs! Thanks for posting

Don't do it. I really don't know about the dregs from the wort, but the hops in it is bad for dogs so I just wouldn't. I brew with whole hops and I read that it is bad for animals. I was thinking the same thing and did research on the internet and everyone said no.

Lol I guess I won't then! If that is the case why risk it luv me babies! Thanks Vinniepoch

That's why I removed the steeped grains before I added the hops as I stated in my previous post. The grains have already done their job, are safe to eat and my chickens really enjoyed them.

My girls love the grains too! I pour the sediment into the compost pile or on my Crystal Hops. (This years was my first harvest-3.5 oz!)
