That's the spin I am trying to put on it here. That's one of the manymanymany reasons I have for homeschooling, that learning needn't take place ONLY at certain places, during certain hours, on certain days, wearing certain clothes, etc. That learning shouldn't be something dreary from which we anxiously await a break, and dread beginning again. That because we are alive, curious, interested people we all enjoy learning and growing all the time.
Of course, there is a certain amount of paperwork that needs doing, that really does enable learning & is not just unnecessary busy-work. Here in sultry South Florida it makes more sense to stay indoors near the AC during the summer and try to complete a lot of paperwork. That way we have more liberty to take time during the traditional school year for other activities like gardening, holiday fun, our county fair, visiting nature centers during our splendid spring weather, etc.
In addition, we've gotten so spoiled by having the parks, playgrounds & libraries mostly to ourselves during the school year that we find them too crowded & loud during the summer when the institutional schools are on break.
