Any Hope??

Well I will hope for the best everyone, thank you for all the advice even if I can’t carry it out. I will definitely keep an eye out for that sneaky drake and if I find him, clip goes those wings. If I don’t see him, I know that he’s out there somewhere.

My male mallard duck flew away yesterday morning. We went to find him but couldn’t, after over 8 hours of finding him we found him at the local car park. He was under a car. He wasn’t damaged and the local police got a broom and poked him out, he then flew even further away into a nearby pond. We cannot enter the area as it is blocked by gates and is trespassing to enter. We raised him since he was a baby and we bonded very well. I think he was hiding in some trees in the area with the pond. Will he ever return? The 2 female ducks don’t seem to mind but it’s heartbreaking to let go of a creature that was raised since birth. Is there any chance he would come back?
oh no! i’m so sorry, i hope he comes back, it seems like it is certainly a good possibility, though.

i don’t know if this is the right time to suggest this so i apologize if it feels not good: we have for this very reason chosen non-flying breeds (black & blue swedish, cayuga), that is something to think about for keeping ducks in the future, maybe?

i’m sorry for your loss. we have lost several chickens & ducks to various things over the years & it is very sad. i hope he comes home.

Does anybody know how long Mallards can survive without food? I’m very sure he has water available in the wild and he does forage for bugs clearly as the holes made in my garden but would this be enough food to keep him alive? I’ve also heard they suffer from loneliness so I hope he finds another duck somewhere.
