Last night I had a little wellsummer bantam cross hatch out, but she has a very strange thing I've never seen before. She has what looks like a little bag of water in a 'flap' to the left hand side of her bum, it's sort of baggy and loose, not stretched tight. It's nowhere near the navel or pooping apparatus, it's just a little watery bag that's sitting there doing not a lot.

It's very thin membrane over it, like just under the skin and is clear fluid. I've seperated her out and she's doing fine, it's not seeming to bother her, but it's just a bit odd, and I don't want the others treading on it and breaking it/making it leak while they're still at the bumbling stage. I can try taking some pics later if I can get the other half to help, it's tricky to take a pic of when you have a chick in one hand and a camera in the other!

Just wondered if anyone has ever seen anything like that?

Here's a pic, please ignore how weird my hand looks, it's very hard to hold a wriggly chick and take a photo at the same time. The watery sack has shunk back to a tiny flap this morning, so

But it's an odd thing for sure!

Well, this morning all the fluid in the baggy bit has been resorbed and left a little wrinkly bald flap of skin, so baby has gone in with the others :)

I kept her seperate while it was full and flopping about because I didn't want any sharp beaks or claws perforating it and causing problems, but now you'd not know there had been anything wrong (apart from the baldy flap!) Baby is pecking about like all the rest :) She's possibly a wee bit smaller than the rest but makes up for it with enthusiasm!
