Any ideas as to where should 24 birds go when re-doing their coop ?

I do have a nother 2 floor chicken coop but I don't think they'll all fit in there ? I have to do something to make their shed more warmer but closing all the cracks and re-doing their door completely. I don't think I'll be able to finish that in one day, so where else can I put 3 ducks,4 roosters and 17 chickens in the meanwhile ?

Could you work on it during the day and then let them back in overnight? maybe during the day they would be OK in the smaller coop. I've been working on my revamped metal building and getting a couple of things done each day while they are in the run. They do come in to help though.

instead of -redoing the coop you could stack straw bales around it. They are great insulation & easy to stack. Will stop the wind etc. Then in warmer weather you can fix up the coop the way you want.

Just putting something up on the walls, or nailing battens over cracks or suchlike, should not require the chickens to be kicked out. You needn't paint it right now. If they're underfoot, just get them into their run and close the popdoor for a coupla hrs while you work on it in peace [IMG]

For the floor, what exactly are you trying to do? It most likely can be done without removing chickens, or just by locking them into the run for a few hours.

We bought the shed 7x7 for storage use only, therefore, my husband got a plastic shed. After we got ducks, I've made them a small coop, then the chickens started to pile up, so we moved them to the shed and I've made them nest boxes and 2 roosting bars. Then, we got some more chickens, so I've build a nother coop with 2 floors. Some do stay there and others in the shed at night. The way my husband and brother put it together, the doubel doors won't close. I sealed the first door and let the other door little open so they could come in and out. That's the only entry they have to the shed. I've put 2 big heating lights and a lot of hay inside, but it's still feels cold. And the run being the way it is (you'll know what I'm talking about if you read my BYC) we have decided to change the location of their run and shed/coop to a much drier and sunny location.

The door to the shed will be outside and a little door from the shed that will lead them to the run. In the front of the current shed, we were thinking of completely re-done. One door instead of two and a little window. We are also considering to buy a new shed or a coop for them. Let's see what happens. I just want them to be warm and comfortable for the winter.

I use the garage as a back up for chicken housing, it took a while to convince my husband but after his favorite bird got ill last year and spent a few months in the garage he didn't mind so much. Plus, we don't do silly things like park cars in the garage anyway! It's more like a workshop than a traditional garage. sorry..rambling again

I'm doing some remodeling myself but I'm doing it in stages. That way I don't have to move the birds.
