One of my 2 month old chicks died yesterday, there was a light coating of blood on her anus. I saw some red chicken poop in their yard. Another one is not looking well. There were only three in their yard. In the same area there is a flock of twenty chickens but the chicks are kept separate. There are rat dropping in the area but there has been no injuries from bites. I couldn't find anything in the book I have about what is ailing the little ones. I would appriciate any ideas about what is going on.
Thanks,
Martha

Sorry to hear about your sick birds. I'm kind of a chicken newbe myself so I don't have any good advice. Repost what you wrote under Emergencies, Diseases Injuries and Cures and you'll get a quicker response! Best of luck!

Welcome to BYC. Sounds like cocci. Go to your feedstore in the cattle section and purchase Corid (amprolium) 9.6% liquid solution or Corid 20% soluable powder. Dosage for the 9.6% liquid solution is 9.5cc/ml per gallon of water for 5 days. Dosage for the 20% soluable powder is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for 5 days. Good luck.
