??? Any ideas on this

My one yr old hen has a sore on feet but it does not seem to bother her any ideas on what and how to fix it ( sorry the pics R not great). Her feet are swollen and soft also.

Bumblefoot is a staph infection...I would recommend taking her to the vet. I tried to cure it on my own and lost my bird.

I agree, looks like it might be bumblefoot. I tried searching for my links that pertained to trying to care for you your self, but the ones I found are no longer working. But I must also agree with Spotted Crow. It is a nasty thing to try and cure yourself. Just do a search online and you should be able to find lots of info on it.

Btw, no need to be sorry. We all had to learn. It wasnt all that long ago when I was asking the same question! Thats what this board is so great for!

Yup, that is bumblefoot and can cause an internal blood infection if not treated. If you want to attempt treatment yourself, it will mean removing that plug which is holding pus in there, daily cleaning & nurturing of the wound area and PenG injections into the breast to help with infection for 7-10 days....possibly longer depending how bad the infection is. I would recommend a vet too.

As a reminder, staph is contagious to other chickens and people. You will want to do a thorough cleanout of the coop, roosts, etc. And wear gloves while working with the bird.

An abscess in a bird is not like an abscess in a mammal...it will not go away of its own accord and be reabsorbed... if it is bumblefoot lump (and not gout) then it will need to be manually scaraped out.

Thanks all, I will get more info and call and see if I can find a vet that will work with chickens and my buget at the same time. I was going to cut off the part that was sort of hanging off. Although I was not sure so I think I may do that today. Now to think of how to keep the pen dry with the rain and all the mud they love to play in. I just spent 250. dollars on a new ferret home (they really needed it) and how to fix the chicken and the pen.
