Went by TSC today. They have chicks for $1.99. Only problem is all they seem to know about them is that they are pullets. Any ideas?

The ones that are light brown/tan with a little darker stripe are "Production Reds" or Red Pullets. They are great layers of brown eggs, mine lay EVERY day including during a molt. There eggs peg out my scale they are so large. Darker/black ones might be Black Sex Link, which are pullets as well. Both are bred so that they can be sexed easily among other traits.

I agree with this. The black ones might also be Black Australorps. Not sure about the deeply striped one, as there are many breeds that look like this - does it have puffy cheeks? Could be an Easter Egger, but the striping seems really defined for an EE.

I also see some white ones in there - they could be White Rocks, or maybe White Leghorns (they lay lots of large white eggs, but maybe they look smaller). The striped one looks interesting! It would be neat to find out what it was!

Which age group are you getting from?
