Any ideas to help stop hens laying from the roost ?

Thank you all for your input. The hens for the most part are older and now are alternating laying off the roost and in their ample sized boxes.
I like your idea zazouse and what you did for the geese but aren't you afraid of running into a snake in all that straw and stuff?

Arbor, I don't think I will go the dog crate idea, too many hens/too much trouble and would be worried by doing that it would upset the hens , possibly setting them up to get egg bound.
Removable roosts are an idea, will think about that one.

casportpony , with a catch net ...don't you think the birds could possibly get tangled up in one of those while flying up or down from the roost ?

Maybe the shavings under the roost would be good or sand or something...thanks for the shavings idea zazouse but will shavings mold if they get wet from rain ?

Snakes don't bother me i like em, but that is where the geese lay so i don't think a snakes want to be around a grumpy goose.

Shavings will only mold if they stay wet or have something over them, like things that may be laying around, bags..etc
I have shavings under my roost they are from the nest boxes, they compost after a while with the help of scratching henns
