Any ideas what breed he has in him?

I think the small eyes reflect a little Pittbull in there.
Around my area of MS, that would be called a black mouth cur dog.
Good luck.

LOL yes that is the breed I meant. There may be some other mix out there that has Ridgeback, the markings are very Mastiff like.

I would think maybe redbone hound and shepherd. I at first thought Rhodesian Ridgeback, but like already mentioned not very common. He's really gorgeous! I wish you the very best with your baby. Amy

You can also see that color and markings in the semi-feral mutt dogs in Thailand and Egypt, with no Rhodesian Ridgebacks around.

Crossing various widespread, common breeds brings out a surprising variety, including some surprising colors and markings. I would generally assume the parents are some of the commonly kept breeds in the area, especially if there is a group of breeds that runs loose more and doesn't get neutered.

In one area of my town, that's pit bull dogs. In another area, it's the affluent yuppie dog breeds, mostly Golden Retrievers and Akitas. Not neutering pets and letting them run loose, in other words, 'free puppies!', dumped dogs and ownerless pups wandering around, is common to many different groups of dog owners.

The most populous breeds of dogs in the US, are probably the fighting breeds, then Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, and Labrador Retrievers. I'm guessing, because I don't know that anyone has really accurate statistics of licensed and unlicensed dogs(not sure how they could track unlicensed dogs).

I don't see any pit in him. He looks houndy to me.

Seems like everytime people see a larger pup these days they cry bully on them. This is really hurting shelter dogs.

What's really funny is when I took my Catahoula puppy to the petstore and feedstore to get toys and supplies everyone who saw him said he was a pitbull puppy. When I told them what he really was they acted like I made it up. lol
