Any ideas?

Dirt box has been refilled, and like I said, it’s peobably some kind of mix, not a full GLW which would explain the light legs. We’re leaning towards roo ourselves. I think we’ll stay away from this breeder going forward, he’s guaranteed all 4 chickens we’ve gotten from him and it’s been 50% male which unfortunately we’re not allowed to have. We did ask for older so we could be sure but clearly we’re too inexperienced to know ages, especially when almost bald. He said it had to be a girl if it was treated like that by a rooster. Sigh...

Don't be hard on yourself. Everyone learns somewhere or by some experience. I feel compelled to negate his comment "it had to be a pullet for the roo to treat it like that". Sure there are some not nice Roos- but I've not heard of them being aggressive towards girls unless the girl was of laying age and not submitting. They tend to work that out fast. Maybe I'm off but all my Roos have had an unrelenting desire to protect and woo their ladies. Feed them, build nests for them, watch over them... another cockerel in the flock is not so welcome however. Maybe others have different experiences, I've just not seen that yet.
