I am putting my first ever batch in the incubator this Sat. It is s still air incubator, I am setting it up tonight to let it run, so I can do any adjusting.

If anyone has any tips, I welcome them

New incubator gal!

another question, do I have to have an egg turner???? I have heard different things regarding this................I plan on doing it myself, but did not know if I needed to go buy an automatic one

You CAN get an auto turner - I've never had one, always have done it myself, and have had great hatches.

I'm 10 days into my first batch with a still air and no egg turner. Next time I'm going to add heat sinks (?) small jam sized jars filled with hot water with sealed tops. As I understand it they should help the bator temps recover faster and stay more stable since I have to take the lid off 3x a day to turn the eggs. It can take quite awhile for temps to come back up after you turn the eggs, but you don't want to go adjusting it right away or next time you look the temp will be spiking. Good luck and happy hatching!

thank you! good tips! I am nervous about this as I have never used an incubator, just used mamma hen!

I was wondering about opening it, to turn the eggs.....Hopefully I can keep the temp stable!

Thanks again to everyone!! Will keep you posted after I get the eggs in on Sat

The best tip I can give you is to RUN, do it now while you can. The eggs should have a warning label on them " warning contents may be habit forming"

I am watching my first chicks ever hatch, it's a blast.

I wish you be best of luck, enjoy

THANKS!!! and yes, there should be a warning label!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, TOO LATE.................................................I am already addicted to chickens and with as nervous as I am about the incubator, I feel I will be addicted to it also
