I' am in the process of making a victorian era vest.
Next is the shirt, then trousers, then "braces"

I'm getting into a genera called "Steampunk". It's Victorian era/goth/scifi all rolled up onto one. It's common to see a Pirate carrying a ray gun and a sword.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else Taylor thier own clothes.

I've made a few steampunk dresses, including 4 of the lulu gown...

Of course I'm a girl, but my 9 yr old son is learning how to sew on my old machine, and the new embroidery one (under strict supervision). He's starting on a basic cloak, with some seriously embroidered panels. Mr saddi Does know how to sew, but has huge hands which makes getting around the needle a dicey thing.

Costumer here. Well, it's more a hobby now, but I've been sewing since about middle school and concentrated on it during my Drama degree in college. I've built clothing bits from early Medieval through Victorian as well....and spent a bit of time dabbling in the Steampunk genre as well.

WOW! You guys are fancy! All I do is make my own work shirts. I'm too broad in the shoulders so when commercially made shirts fit there, there is enough fabric around the waist for 2 or 3 of me. And the upper arms NEVER fit. So I tore apart one shirt that DID fit right and made myself a pattern. Been sewing over it for years and years.

I've done that with skirts. I'm tiny at 5 ft tall with uhh... "good birthing hips". So if it fits my waist, it's strained at the hips, if it fits my hips, good luck at keeping it up without suspenders.

I can sew a popped button back on or mend a seam that's come undone but that's the extent of it.

Ooh....that would have been fun! Closest I got to a Steampunk event was last year at D*C. The wife and I spent an evening in SP dress hanging out with that crowd.

My "super macho" bf doesn't sew but he loves to knit. Just don't ever let him find out I told you guys

At least not until he is done with the chain chomp hat he is making me.

(for you who don't know that is a villan from Mario. He is a large black ball with a chain attached.) The hat makes it look like the chain chomp has a hold of your head it's really cute. Hang on I'll try to find the link....
