Well....I'm really starting to get into metal.

I was all country, pop, and hip-hop a year ago, and now I despise all three greatly xD I listen to stuff like Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc. and then stuff like Alice in Chains, old early metal like Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, etc. and stuff like Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue that *could* be considered metal, I guess. Progressive metal, like Rush. I like Pantera too. So I have a feeling I'm missing a ton of good bands! So what metal do you listen too?

I listen to anything but tejano... I cannot STAND polka. Other than that anything with a melody works for me. Those you listed and MANY more. Metallica (Until It Sleeps was the first that grabbed me, been a fan since thank you DH for that intro) and Megadeth (I LOVE Symphony of Destruction thank bud David for that one) are favorites but also newer stuff like Suidakra (Feats of War is loved by all in this house, but esp. DD)... gotta love the irony of going to an Irish Metal Fest at Ridglea and hearing a German band blowing everyone out of the water. Their Danny Boy was AMAZING.

But if I had to make a recommendation it doesn't seem like you've heard much about... IN FLAMES. Jotun is a personal fav, but there are TONS of their songs I just LOVE... GREAT guitar and some awesome melodies.

For any who'd like to take a listen...

I also love country, bang around like a lunatic with oldies, and even get to bopping to R&B and a very small amount of rap. Again, it comes down to melody.

Well, we know all about Pantera around these parts... it really sucked what happened to Darrell. And Vinnie was just a mess afterwards. Having people playing things like Cemetery Gates anytime he walked in a room most certainly didn't help. My life might be small, but I'm thankful I can live it in peace. Sorry, pet peeve.

Let's see... Korn, Sevendust... seen them... OHHH and Type O Negative... now that summons some lovely memories.

Since when is Led Zeppelin metal? They're more rock/folk/blues.

Metallica, old Guns N'Roses, Motley Crue, KISS, Megadeth, Absu, Bathory, Steel Attack, Moonspell, Hammerfall, Nocturnal Rites, Iron Fire, Black Sabbath, Testament, Exodus, Metal Church, Sanctuary, more obscure bands that I listened to in high school and college that I can't recall now.

Some of the stuff listed isn't metal, a lot is alternative (Alice in Chains), industrial (nin) or rock (Areosmith and Alice Cooper). There is a difference. Like those American Goth kids that try to claim Marilyn Manson is Goth (he isn't metal either). A lot has to do with tone, arrangements, instruments, chords, rhythm, etc ...

DH backs me up on this.

Zeppelin was around long before heavy metal was a separate genre.

I'm a HUGE fan of Viking metal: Bathory, Steel Attack, Nocturnal Rites, Iron Fire, Hammerfall. There are a lot of new bands in this sub-genre too.
