I look at it as, they were raised to be eaten. If we did not buy these chicks, someone else would have and may not have give them as good a life as we have. They are meat chickens, they would not do well to get bigger and as I am telling my self when we are about to send Tilly and Curly Pig to freezer camp, we are sparing them a cold winter and the discomfort of old age. We loved them, we took good care of them, we made sure they had all the comforts they could want. This is what we raised them for and we would be eating chicken and pork from somewhere, why not meat we are sure is as good and healthy as we can. You have to keep it in perspective. Remember that while you are raising it and it wont be so hard when the time comes. I hate buying store chickens and finding bruising and broken legs or wings and knowing from the condition of the carcasse that this happened while it was alive and felt pain and suffered before and possibly during the process. We know we made sure our animals suffered as little as possible and were handled humanely and with respect.
And really, once they are dead and plucked or skinned, they are food. Period.
