Any one else own a Skunk ?

There's a great PBS ad that has a skunk coming into the house, through the kitchen, living room, up the stairs, into a bedroom, up on the bed with a guy sleeping. Then the cameras moves out and there a pix on the nightstand of the family with their pet skunk. The words "Be more openminded" scroll across the screen.

Imp- I took care of a skunk over Christmas vacation when I was in 6th grade. Mean thing. Dad had to hold it by the tail with leather gloves while I cleaned up after it. Suppose that didn't help it's disposition much.

I was at the Mt Hope auction too, brought home a zebu bull and a ram.

I work at a vet that see exotics, and own quite a few (serval, fennec and more) I have had a skunk before.

You HAVE to get her spayed or she will be crabby crabby. Take a stool sample to the vet asap. they are prone to coccia and roundworms. If they suffer with it too long they can get rectal prolaps. Worms can be a big problem. they need wormed about as often as livestock. They just are very prone to them and the encysted roundworms hatch out often so they need to be rewormed regularly.

Mine never had a digging problem, but his litterbox habits sucked. They need a homemade diet, no dog or cat food as a main meal. I fed mainly veggies and rice with some meat or dogfood for protein but not much. Too much protein is not good for them.

They do need alot of attention. I took a 2 week vacation and when I got back my skunk was very aggressive to me, but only me! I had to find him home because his biting me was so bad I could never handle him, not really fair for him or me. This is not really the norm for skunks I guess Im just unlucky. He never bit anyone else but he did bite down to the joint in my finger once. I think it also had to do with his rectal prolapse that was resolved before I left for vacation. i had to push it back in daily with prep H and it was painfull. The surgery didnt work for him. time healed it eventually but he never forgave me.

May I ask what kind of auctions these are?

Heaven forbid I ever attend one, I'd be up to my neck in just about everything!
