I have a roo and 2 hens that are rocks. I love them. They are only about 4 months old, so they haven't started laying yet. Can't help with an opinion about eggs. I think they are beautiful and docile animals. My rooster (Opie) follows me around the yard and talks to me. I have other breeds (reds and orpingtons) but the rocks are my favorite. I say "get them!"

I have 3 hens. I got them at 4 months old. They are friendly. Do not like to be picked up tho. One follows me around like she is a dog. They all come running when they see me. Looking for treats of course. I have these 3 and 2 golden comets and I usually get 4 eggs a day. Don't know if somebody is not laying or if a diff one takes the day off every day. They are nice brown eggs. I think you would enjoy them.

My barred rock is the friendliest of my chickens. She'll let you pet her and pick her up. She's also the most consistant layer and lays the largest eggs. I can only compare that with my golden lakenvelder and golden campine, but except for when she was sick she was laying an egg a day. She finally hit the 2 ounce mark in egg weight. I'd definately get some barred rocks!

My absolute favorite breed, full of personality, curious, friendly, great consistent layer. I also have a rooster who is a year and a half old, very even tempered, sweet fella, excellent guardian. Also, had a younger BR cockerel that I kept till mating age. He was an absolute doll, too, and they did not come from the same lines. All of the cockerels I've hatched have been the sweetest things and so have all the pullets. Even the pullets with Barred Rock mothers and different fathers I hatched awhile back are even more sweet and friendly than the purebreds. Bet it's that BR influence in them.
