Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

So, my husband found 3 eggs in the flower bed yesterday! One was pretty clean, probably just laid that day. The other two were pretty dirty. My guess is that they're from Friday and Monday. Or, if I have two layers, then maybe Monday and Tuesday. Who knows. Sneaky chickens.

He also caught Agrilla (Rhode Island Red) laying an egg in the flower bed today. So, she's the culprit. My husband left the egg in the flower bed so our daughter can find it when we get home this evening. :)

We have 7 eggs now!

We're having breakfast for dinner tonight! French toast and eggs! Hooray!

Oh how wonderful! Keep that Agrilla cooped up until she lays! I wait until my new layers are done, then I let them out.

I love Breakfast Dinner! We have it a lot around here! Yum!

Dahlia, my last hold out developing comb and waddles.

So, today I got 6 eggs! I was finally able to identify 3 girls lay which eggs. I am pretty sure it is my red sex links that lay the darkest eggs. My barred rock lays the lightest eggs so far. I also finally caught one of my RIR's finally in the nest box. Before this though, my DH left for work, he told me he thought he saw a broken egg in the corner of the coop. When I went out sure enough, there was some evidence of a yolk, and what looked like a deflated balloon. Heck I thought, that must be a first egg from someone that I have heard about sometimes on here where the egg appears to just be a thin membrane, and shell less. I was convinced this morning, it was a first time layer, and looked forward to the day. Well, jump forward to me seeing the RIR in the box. After I saw her out of the coop and in the run, I went to see what her egg looked like, reached in and went to pick up.....
another soft balloon egg! It was like a paper egg, filled with water! And the coloring was so odd,, darker brown on top and bottom, and pale in between.. like a stripped Easter egg. Here is a picture of it.
The indent is my thumb print. I tore it open, and there was a perfect egg yolk and white inside.
So, I give plenty of oyster shell, and have given back every single shell back to the girls from all of their eggs. I am hoping this is just new layer anomaly and not a chronic thing. I will watch closely tomorrow.

So, this means I have 6 laying hens,, maybe more, as I am sure not all the hens lay every day. I think 2 are still a bit behind judging from their combs waddles and behavior. They still run from Duke, but he gets to them any way. Still on the fence about that boy....

I only got 2 eggs yesterday. As I stated earlier my first egg layer did take a break yesterday and so did the first RIR that laid as well. I found it odd that they both still went and sat in the nest boxes as usual. Probably both for about an hour at their same normal time they have been laying everyday. This is in contrast to my Americanas that lay every other day so far, they never are anywhere near the boxes on their of days. Does anyone know if it is normal to sit in the box but not lay?

MB, I think that your problem will fix itself from what I have read here at BYC. Congrats on another layer!

MB, jelly eggs are totally normal with new layers. Their bodies are still just figuring things out. It'll correct itself in time.

Red, I've seen layers sit in the box and not lay on plenty of days. My JG did that yesterday, and yesterday was not supposed to be an egg day off. She was there for 2 hours and never laid an egg.

We got 6" of snow yesterday, which is the perfect amount. It's beautiful, but not too disruptive. The chickens do not agree though. They're refusing to come out of their coop. Last year my chickens got used to the snow, and would forage through it. Maybe they'll get bored by afternoon and come out to play.

Red, my boss lives in Tampa. He's coming up for a visit next week, and I have asked him to bring some FL sunshine with him. Maybe we can trade? I'll happily send the snow back to FL with him.

I complain about winter, but I don't think I could live somewhere that didn't have 4 solidly different seasons. I wouldn't mind if winter were just a little bit shorter and summer were a little bit longer though. But not too much longer. I refuse to live in a place that would require me to have air conditioning.

Finally! Was laid while we were at work. Omw so excited. Now we start!
