Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Let's see some pics soon of those two RIR Cat! Congrats on the new birds..

Beautiful BO's there Johnn... don't worry, their time is nearing, you'll have eggs soon enough.

Ohhh how pretty, Johnn . Buff orphingtons right? I hope to get one of those in a couple of weeks. Yaah... I did pickup 2 RIR chicks today.

I am going to wait before i name them for sure. Could be a Ruby and a Garnet...
I used to go on vacation a lot with my mom. But not for the last 3 years. That is when we bought the house and now with have so many animals... if we go any were we go on separate trips and not for that long. But there are friends of mine that would house sit for us if we choose to go. I am going on a mini cruse in March but not my Mom... She gets too seasick. There is a friend of mine that is close by... She hires the neighbor kids to take care of her animals and they can keep the eggs they find.
I love the flocks you have and will have Brooster. I love all the different colors that will be in your and all of our baskets. I think that is part of why I want Blue Andalusians again. Not only are they a beautiful gray color but the white eggs will really stand out as different in our colorful baskets.

I've been thinking about white egg layers too. I've been thinking about hatching some Ancona. My daughter wants Polish hens. Blue Andalusians are so pretty!

Living on an island, we have a lot of wild domesticated chickens (if that makes sense). To get the true breeds I always have to order from a hatchery.

When I go on vacation since my bro in law also owns chickens he takes care of my 4 dogs and my chickens. Both of our animals are in the same yard.

My girls are named after cooking spices... lol

Cinnamon - RIR
Spice - RIR
Pepper - BR
Clove - BR
Jasmine - Silver Laced Wyandotte
Licorice - "
Saffron - "
Sage - Light Brahmas
Paprika - Buff Orpington

Forgot to mention got one egg today. So I've collected a total of 4 eggs thus far. Not all my girls are laying. The silver laces look like they will be the last to lay.

Still just the 2 eggs today, I guess Lilly was just practicing. Looks like our Lucy might be getting ready too :) I actually dreamed last night I had so many eggs I was dropping them :( No more chocolate before bed! Have a good night everyone!

My Columbian Wyandotte is not laying yet either, her and one of my Black Australorps. My last two holdouts.

Spice names... I like that. Saffron would make a great name for a BO... I will have to wait to see how some personalities come out though. Mellabella... that is a cute pup in your avatar. Is s/he new? Adorable... I will take some pics of the new girls in the morning... everyone is asleep now. Night all... Pleasant Egg dreams.

I also am waiting on 8 hens to start laying. Four Barred Plymouth Rocks and four Buff Orphingtons.
The were born in September so we are going on 20 weeks and no sign of eggs as yet....keeping
fingers crossed they will start soon. Don't know if the cold weather has anything to do with the
laying egg process, seems from postings here that is doesn't. Most of these responders live in
very cold climates, I am in Atlanta Ga so winters are not too bad here. But....girls haven't
started laying yet. Don't know if type of breed has anything to do with the laying either.
I also have two Rhode Island Red hens that started laying at 21 weeks, they are almost
a year old now. Sooo...guess I will just wait it out. I am fairly new to raising chickens
process too although when growing up in Ohio as a kid my family had chickens so
did have a little knowledge going into this. That was a quite awhile ago......
Hope your hens start to lay soon, hope to hear when they do.

To the egg waiting thread! Glad to have newcombers, and happy to have you! What kind are your other 6 hens? I have two "golden buffs" which is another fancy name for red sex links like your comets. I have to tell you, those 2 skinny brown plain wrapper birds lay my largest darkest brown eggs. They have also been averaging 5-6 eggs a week so far! Their eggs also have the largest yolks. I want to call Meyer Hatchery, and see what they cross with the RIR to make their red sex links. Probably varies. Maybe White leghorn. I love those silly plain janes. One is named Sadie, the other Matilda.

Nice pictuers of your coop as well, looks very nice! Please post often about your girls, we'd love to hear about them.

ps,, where in Delaware are you located? I just got back last week from University of Delaware where my oldest is a senior. He has mono, and I wanted to be wtih him for a few days. Made a bunch of his favorite dishes and drove it down to him. I told him, you almost got through all four years without getting this silly disease!

My other chickens can be seen on my "My Chickens" link in my signature. Thanks for the coop compliment. I already had 1 golden comet, but the two that I got came from a large flock of about 30 or so. They are so much more adventurous than my original birds, including the 1 golden comet that I have. They are always the first 2 to go outside of the coop in the morning and they actually "run" in it. I have a Jersey giant rooster who has yet to be outside and the run was completed a week ago. When I open the coop door, the 2 new golden comet hens come right to me and almost jump out. It's funny how they act so much different than the other birds. It's almost like they've taken over the whole coop.

I'm still waiting for the eggs this morning as I sit with my Bible and a cup of coffee, but the 1 I received yesterday was dark brown, but a little on the average size, maybe even a bit smaller than average. I can't wait for my Jersey Giant hen to start dishing out some extra large eggs.

I live in southern DE in Seaford, about 2 hours from the University. I know DE seems too small to have a 2 hour drive within it, but that's about the extent of it. Sorry to hear about his mono. I'm sure the home cooking from mom worked wonders.
