Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Thanks for the welcome to the thread :)

@ColSol I am so sorry to hear about your chicken loss. I had a similar incident happen last spring/summer. I had just started my flock and had 13 chickens, 2 RIR, 2 Golden sex-link, 2 Buff Orpington, 7 EE (one roo) and 2 buff ducks. My little boy plugged in the heat lamp, and knocked it over (he loves to check on the chickens), I had just changed the bedding so our coop burnt down. The temporary enclosure was just that, temporary but some dogs got into it and killed everyone but one of my ducks. She was sure spoiled for the month it took us to rebuild our coop.

All my girls are EE, I fed them a flock raiser (since I have ducks and a goose too) until they were 16 weeks old then switched them to a layer crumble. I also give them veggie scraps, and occasionally I cook up some of the duck eggs (my family wont touch them) and feed them to them. I also give them the egg shells from the eggs we eat. I started to keep count of how many eggs I am getting daily, right now it is 3-5 a day. I got my 2nd goose egg today too.

Here is a few shot of the girls.

Waiting for me to pick some grass and give them.

This is the egg squat

I don't know which one this is I only have around 6 named.

Daffy my sole survivor, I love the lacing some of them have.

yeah!!!!

I'm in the same boat you were! I only usually get 1 egg a day! my RIR isn't a very good layer!!!!!! That's why I can't wait until my Barred rocks start laying.

Great pictures Duckie Tam,
Thanks for the squating photo,, I WISH my girls would start doing that!

Congrats on the goose egg, that must be neat. I want to keep an egg count too. I saw on another thread someone was celebrating their 600th egg! can you imagine!

Your welcome with the picture, I was confused when my girls started squating when we walked near some of them, so I came here and heard about the egg squat. I thought a picture might help.

I wasn't raised on duck eggs either, my 8 year old told me he would eat a duck egg, so I cooked one for him. Needless to say the dog wound up eating that egg. But then two of my kids wont eat the chicken eggs either. They say fresh eggs don't taste the same and they wont eat them when I make eggs.

Congrats on 3 eggs in one day, the first week I started getting eggs I was so impatient for them to all start laying, getting 1 egg here and there was really nerve racking. Now three weeks later I am seeing my daily count rise.

600 eggs! Wow I can't imagine that many, but then again my duck Daffy who started laying Labor Day weekend has layed an egg a day -1 since around the first of Sept, she is nearing her 100th egg this year alone.
