Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Just spent a while going through all these posts reading other member's trials and tribulations while waiting for the "first egg". Nice to see others sharing their experiences, as we have 7, 17 week old chickens. 2 barred rocks, 2 SLW, 2 Colombian W, and 1 GLW. We are trying to be patient .... but we "think" we witnessed the anticipated squat and have noticed red waddles, as well as a lot of chatter from particular hens. The weather here in upstate NY has been a bit fickle with some nights being 30 degrees F and other nights being below 0, so we are sure that doesn't help. But we are keeping our fingers crossed!

admnts50 !! You are getting SO close to an egg!. The squat is so funny. I am still waiting for my EE to lay her first egg. She is the only one out of my 8 that has not laid and she is 38 weeks 4 days old. IT IS SO HARD to wait this long to see what color her egg will be. We have been having sunny but cold days here. The fog has been rolling in about 3:30 to 4:00 pm, but that is far better then the dark clouds we normally have. Still the chickens water freezes over night and would stay frozen all day if I didn't go out and break up and remove the ice. They have 3 different waterers out there in the run so they always have fresh water in one.

To our Egg waiting thread! So happy to have you admts50! As nakstk says,, you are getting very close. We have some similar breeds and I also live in Upstate NY. I'm in Dutchess Co. and it took my small flock until 23 weeks to get my first egg. Are you farther north? Have no fear,, the days are stretcching out and each day brings us closer to optimum egg laying sun exposure! I have 7 of 9 laying,, may even have all 9as some of the eggs the last few days have been small and quite narrow. My largest eggs are weighing in at X Large now! Wooo HOOOO! Like your coop, and your birds look great! Where did you buy them from?

Please keep us updated, and post often. We love the company!

We are in the Albany area. Sounds like you are well underway, MB with your egg laying process, and you must have happy girls with Xlarge eggs! We know that the calender says we have another 5-6 weeks, but we cant help but look in the nesting boxes everyday for a new surprise!
Our coop is a converted shed with all recycled windows from family members. Tin roof also recycled, about the only thing bought brand new was the siding.
We got our chickens form MyPetChicken.com We were very pleased with their condition when they arrived and how they have thrived since. I say this because we were VERY skeptical at first having baby chicks shipped through the mail. Where did you get yours?

Hey guy. Welcome to all the newbies. This thread is growing larger everyday.

Another six eggs today, they are slower getting bigger. I got my first large egg yesterday.

As stated in my previous post I bought a pig at the fair last night to help support our local kids. Here is a picture of me and Piggles!

Now I will have plenty of bacon to go with my eggs!

All of you still waiting hang in there its really hard to wait but once they start the cartons fill up fast. We got 35 eggs this week.

3 days 5 eggs! That's just with the 2 first girls. Can't wait til the other 4 start too, I'll have eggs coming out of my ears! The welsummer eggs are sooo dark, beats the Marans we had.

The ones on the left are from our BA. Love the beautiful pinkish color! She's layed all 3 days since she started :) Welsummer only 2 out of the 3 days.

I ordered mine from Meyer Hatchery. Same thing as you, all arrived safe and in great condition. It was July too,, I did pay extra for overnight shipping since it was in the summer.
