Wow it must be the full moon starting to help all these new egg producers. Congrats to everyone!! I am like you MB in starting to think about how long they will lay till they stop in the fall. I have also caught myself doing some egg math trying to figure out about how many dozen eggs I will get on a monthly basis. What's that old saying "Don't count your eggs until they are laid!"

As I looked at my egg journal this morning I am reminded that, two weeks ago today, I was about to pull my hair out waiting for my first day of multiple eggs. After ten straight days of one egg I was going crazy. On that day two short weeks ago I was at 10 eggs total and I got my first day of multiple eggs, 3 to be exact. Now this morning I just checked and we have gotten 82 eggs to date!!!!!! I have had 4 seven egg days in the last week. Only three more goals ahead of me 8, 9, and the ultimate day of 10 eggs in a day, I just can't wait for that day!

I also just wanted to say to everyone that this thread is a great thread! Just think that we all joined in anticipation of those first eggs and look at the many things we have discussed! Some of you make me so jealous of how much homegrown food you are producing out of your backyard. Happy egg hunting to everyone and I'm going to make me an omelette!

Wow, what pretty girls. I know nothing about Americuana's. Try posting their picture over on an Americuana thread. I know there is a lot of birds passed off as Americuana who are actually EE's. These look quite authetic, but again, I am NO expert I know the certain comb, beard and tuft, and leg color is a must. What breed do you have that give you a pinkish egg? I would love two coronation sussex for pinkish eggs. I have heard they are quite people friendly as well.

I also want to get some variety in egg color for this coming year. I want to get a second small flock, now I just have to work on getting another coop and run built, DH gonna love that! I have been looking on Craigs list for some used sheds. Would love that.

I'm just as thrilled with this tread :) Hope to become daily friend chat with our girls! This is already fun to wake up and check what everyones been up to. I got up and Stella, our Welsummer is going to be my noisy girl, weekends let me hear and see what the neighbors are getting a taste of. So glad most of them work! We added our new girls to the coop last night and I did seperate them but they popped the gate and the 2 younger ones from the 1st batch got in with the new girls. Everythings fine, all getting along so far :) They are all from the same place and its only been a few weeks since they seen each other. Got my 2 eggs yesterday from Stella and Rosie, our BA. The new girls, Americaunas, we were told, won't know the color til they do lay. What an exciting wait this wil be! Congratulations on all your 7 eggs days Redangler! Can't wait myself!!! Have a great day everyone!

Red, same here,, doing the chicken math to see what I can add, and where. ANy extra funds around here, (and there aren't many) has been going into a coffee can to get a O2 Compost system installed. It has been my dream to buy one, and then have it built here. With the 200 lbs of horse manure produced here, the compost produced would make my place a dream. I think I could even sell it after I used my first months to do with it what I need around here. They whole project estimate could cost me anywhere between 8-10 thousand dollars, but if I ever get that, I'll have it made in the shade! Here is a picture of the unit I want. The unit turns manure into ready compost in 60 days!

I wasn't going to mention this until we did, but have any of you noticed that we are almost up to 1000 pages! I have a special emoticon just waiting for that 1000th post! lol....When I started this thread, I wondered if it would die out once we all got eggs! I am so happy that all of us still want to talk about our girls and their habits I am thinking of taking a poulty course that is given within an hours drive of me. You can actually get certain level certifications . It's just finding the time!

Thank you everyone for making this a wonderful, cozy place to come. All newcomers are welcome!

Cheers!
