MB~ that pic is so neat of you and your husband. You should make it black and white and frame it! I have been with my husband since we were 17 and 18 too. It's been 12 years already!

I agree with MB that locking them in the new shed for a few days may be the best answer. I expect that will feel terrible - I know they can kick up such a noise if they're shut in too long. But I suspect it would break her of the habit once and for all. Maybe also remove the old coop during that time, so she's had a few days to know this really is the new home and nesting place - and then the old one has gone. Otherwise, she might persist for a long time! Wishing you good luckI need ideas! I finally moved the chickens into our backyard shed. They love to sleep in there and really like that the dogs can't come and snitch their veggies treats but despite numerous nest boxes and a much more secure area little Hermia is having NONE of it. She resolutely goes back every day to the old copp and screams bloody murder until someone opens it so she can lay an egg in there. I really need to take it down because some serious storm damage is making it not the sturdiest enclosure. Anyway, I want to stress her as little as possible especially since she is my only layer right now. Any ideas? I even sprinkled the same lavendar into the new boxes hoping that the similar smell would encourage her. But no. It doesn't help that she is the worlds most stubborn Bantam.

Thanks Melabella!! My silkie girl's name is Cloud. She is the only silkie hen I have. She gave me another beautiful little creamy egg today! All the big girls need to take some lessons from her! I will definitely post as soon as any of my other girls start laying. Some of them are "nesting" so I am anxiously waiting to see who will be next. All of them are 20 weeks old.Hi countrygirl74!!!!! So nice to see you here!on your first egg!!!! I can't believe how funny that story is..can you imagine how much energy we put into getting these eggs,, and you didn't see it,, and threw it out with the soiled bedsheets! LOL...Thank goodness it didn't break! That silkie girl is SO beautiful, what is her name? Please come back often, and keep us posted about when the rest of your flock donates, or to just let us know anything about your girls!
My first egg was at 26 weeks, on New Years Eve. Crazy time of year, but what is neat is now they are in full swing! Had a full egg count today with 9! So much fun! I wonder who will be next for you. I am just now getting to the point where I think I know everyones egg. The first truly warm day, I swear i am going to get a good book that I have yet to finish, a comfortable chair, and sit outside that coop and watch who lays each egg. That way I will know for sure. I know 5 of 9 for sure.. the other 4 have me confused! Thanks Melabella!! My silkie girl's name is Cloud. She is the only silkie hen I have. She gave me another beautiful little creamy egg today!
